Sutra Bhashyam - 4

The worth of a school of Philosophy lies in its principles and concepts that contribute to the better understanding of everything around us thereby contributing to the betterment of human life. Many a philosopher has put forth his views about this astounding mystery called this Universe.

Sri Madhwacharya is one such philosopher who gave us concepts and principles which are rooted in the Vedic scriptures and ancillary texts. Sri Jayateertha, the commentator-par-excellence , has written extensively on the works of Sri Madhwacharya, bringing out the import of each and every word of His Master and convincingly establishing the tenets after thoroughly considering the all possible points-of-view of the opposition. With stern logic and astute command over the scriptures, Sri Jayateertha, runs through all schools of thought in his Magnum Opus Sriman Nyaya Sudha and exposes their weakness before upholding the position of his Master as true representation of the scritpural point-of-view.

Sri Jayateertha's unflinching devotion towards Sri Madhwa is epitomized in the following verse composed by him from Sri Vishnu Tattva Vinirnaya Teeka

लसतु श्रीमदानन्दतीर्थोन्दुर्नो हृदम्बरे
यद्वचश्चन्द्रिका स्वान्तसन्तापं विनिकृन्तति ।।

Let Sri Madhwachara shine in my mind like the moon in the sky, whose words bring joy to the mind by driving away all the sorrows therein like the moon-light removing darkness.

The day on which he entered the Brindavana at Malkhed is devoutly observed by all his followers as his Aradhana Day every year which falls on 5th Day of Dark half of the Ashadha month. Today, July 7, 2023, his Aradhana is being observed by his devotees with great fervor and devotion. We should consider ourselves very fortunate to study his works in this lifetime. Let us all join and pay our respects to this Great Stalwart of the Madhwa Lineage.
